Since when is 6,000rmb  the same as $958,000?   with 22,200 people that means each person donated 3.7yuan.  What nice people.   What they meant to say was that the people have donated more than 6 million rmb, but CNN fails again.
  • fenyangtang
"We didn't expect so many people to be involved in it," he said. "Over 20,000 people in the past few days send money, this has never happened. It's unthinkable in this nation's history.Ai said this, and the CNN reporter titled this in this report, but how can you confirm this??? In china, if you do ... more
  • AlanBenLee
You are a liar. You just gave a guy the account of a Chinese government-run organization as Mr Ai's account.
Do I need to explain how people can send money, so that you and your corrupted communist masters can block these channels?
  • Guest
Dear Mr. Ai and all of those who have chosen to support you. You situation is analogous to the truck driver who was sentenced to life in prison this year for allegedly seeking to avoid road tolls in an amount of more-or-less $500,000.00 dollars for failing to pay road taxes over a period of about 18... more
  • Olitwist
Ai Wei Wei in fact a CCP agent, now the CCP has another revenue stream.
  • lizardkg
6000 yuan are, roughly, 900 bucks. Not 958 thousand. Argh!
  • lizardkg
How nice having someone else pay for your taxes
  • beicime
It seems that the man didn't pay his taxes and that has nothing to do with "freedom" of expression.
By the way, I also need to setlle my taxes, will you please help!
  • JurorNet
He is making a lot of money to pay this kind of taxes.
  • martinex
That's the most encouraging story I've read in a while.  Is there any way outsiders can contribute?
  • AlanBenLee
Red Cross Society of China is a corrupted government-run organization. Don't be fooled by fenyangtang.
  • LionOfNarnia
CCP sux.  Someone sell them some rotten fruit.

  • eastix
Although Mr.Ai likes to expose his ugly body for "art", he is a smart rich. It is a easy way to get famous and rich if he pretend to be dissenter.
  • LionOfNarnia
the CCP is threatening us in the West, over the Internet.  So we have to respond with rude words sometimes.
  • LionOfNarnia
Don't take wrong when I say bad things about China, it means CCP not the people.
  • LionOfNarnia
    eastix is wumao
  • RosieZ
he is famous enough, he doesn't need to be more "famous" by dealing with the disgusting CCP
  • StolenTimy
I think you are wrong. Im Chinese. He said he will pay all the money back. That he need is not the money, but peoples support. And his 'ugly body' has political means in China.
  • kersh
Why don't he tell us how many tax he has paid ?  He is a rich man.
  • Hehrawldeaux
Because he's not responsible for the accounting in his company.  He's just an artist and obviously he has his accountants for that.  The problem is that the CCP confiscated all financial records from his company and refuses to give him access to them to see if his company did indeed commit tax fraud... more
  • StolenTimy
In China, if you are a dissident, the government have so many methods to put you into prison. If we say Mr.Ai evade taxes, that every artist in China could be charged for tax evasion.

  • ShovelingSnw
The Chinese government likes to redirect criticism to its people, even when they know where it is aimed.
  • Wickerman66
Can he pay it back in pennies?
  • FairMatters
You think the U.S. is different?  No doubt that there are people right now trying to find a "manufactured" way to silence the occupy crowds.
  • iLLuminatik
    Oops! 6,000 yuan is $958 NOT ( $958,000)

(The controversial artist has already received more than 6,000 yuan ($958,000) from more than 22,200 people.)
  • wangl
Yeah the 22,200 people donated 0.27 yuan per person on average.
  • gamts
    CNN meant 6 million yuan..
  • kogwin
Justice never fails! However, the judge in this case is not the CCP corrupted authority. It is the people's will. The government officials can "pocket" the false money and spend few days with bar girls. Ai WeiWei got something more valuable. It is the people's support and understanding, something th... more
  • sevensamsays
Makes no sense, "...pay a five million yuan ($2.3 million) tax bill...has already received more than 6,000 yuan ($958,000)" How is 5,000,000 yuan = $2,300,000 BUT 6,000 = 958,000,000?!?!?
  • AlanBenLee
The number reported by South China Morning Post was 4.7 million yuan. You must be right about 6000000 because the number is increasing.
  • bryansp
My guess is they meant 600万, a way to measure something in Chinese (600*10,000) which would be approximately $958,000
  • sevensamsays
    sorry 958,000....
  • Superthinker
It about time people in China try to put an end to the Unfair political system they have lived with for years!
  • StolenTimy
CCP have force. We only have hands. Do you know 89 incident at Tiananmen?
  • andif
How can China becomes a great country with this kind of behavior?
  • ShovelingSnw
JurorNet, why do you steal IQman's icon?  An attempt to fool us?
  • akabaloo
No, China is a BIG country. It is not quite "great" yet.
  • JurorNet
But it is already a great country!
